Supervisor Robert Heyl, Treasurer Paul Uherek and Trustee Wayne Wallazy have been working hard to end the practice of the previous administrative officers whose sole purpose was to unjustly enrich themselves at Salem Resident’s expense. Their efforts have been met with hostility, lies and threats. In spite of the personal attacks, here are some of their accomplishments to end this abuse of your money. • Disbanded the Fire Administrative Board. Of 25 other Townships in Washtenaw County, only one has a Fire Administrative Board (FAB). That township has a FAB because they have shared services with their surrounding communities. Why would Salem need a FAB? While Trustee Witkowski and Clerk Trent would tell you that it is to insulate the Fire Department from politics, why has Trustee Witkowski previously used the FAB to launch his own personal political attacks? Since Trustee Witkowski has lost that base of attack, he has helped Chief Mark Hamilton to organize the Fire Department into a union. • Evicting the For-Profit Contract Post Office Operation. Former Treasurer Linda Hamilton has had a for profit business subsidized by your money. There has not been a fair rent paid by Mrs. Hamilton in over a decade. Linda Hamilton was offered a fair and reasonable lease agreement approved by the Board of Trustees but refused to sign it. • Ending Nepotism and Cronyism. Supervisor Robert Heyl, Treasurer Paul Uherek and Trustee Wallazy are implementing new Policies and Procedures to end once and for all the nepotism and cronyism of the past in the Township. Ex-Treasurer, Linda Hamilton, couldn’t see a conflict of interest if it bit her in the face. Her husband Mark is the Fire Chief, her son, Jerry Hamilton is the fire training instructor and her nephew Eric Labadie is a firefighter and was the janitor for the Township. Linda Hamilton’s brother-in-Law, Mark Kimler, is a fire inspector and has use of a fire department vehicle for personal use with unlimited gasoline paid by the Township. Trustee Witkowski and Clerk Trent have opposed any accountability on or attempt to end personal use of Township vehicles. Even Linda’s mother was a secretary to the former Township Supervisor, Fred Roperti. • Limited Improper Building and Computer Access. Trustee Witkowski has demanded unlimited access to the Township Hall and the Township’s computer system after hours. Supervisor Heyl has denied this improper access, especially since Trustee Witkowski was involved with litigation alleging electronic espionage on 903 occasions. This was not disclosed by the former Board. Why did the former Township Supervisor, Fred Roperti hide this from the residents of Salem? • Treasurer Uherek Increased the Township’s return on investments to 5% in a time when average interest paid is 0% to .4%. The Township Investment portfolio is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States.
